Valuable nature
**The wetlands in Kalmar consist of recreated aquatic environments in nature with the aim of helping wildlife and at the same time cleaning the water.
Törnerum's wetland was created in 2020 in collaboration with landowners and Sportfiskarna and with the help of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's local nature conservation grant (LONA).
The aim is to purify water from the ditches in the agricultural landscape before the water flows out to Kalmarsund. With different types of vegetation and varied water depths, habitats and spawning grounds, mainly for perch and pike, have also been created. The wetland is also a very good environment for birds, insects and amphibians.
The land is grazed during the summer months and then flooded by water from the stream and surrounding fields during late fall and winter. As the water passes through the wetland, it absorbs nutrients and contributes to cleaner coastal waters.

Törnerum wetland is located right next to the Kalmarsund Trail. Parking and rest area can be found in the map.
Please show consideration by keeping your distance from the wetland and moving calmly in the area during the period March 15 - July 15 when the birds are extra sensitive due to nesting. Please note that fishing is prohibited in all wetlands, ponds and in Törnebybäcken. Fishing is prohibited in order not to disturb the purification capacity of the wetland and to protect the fish that spawn at the outlet of the dam.
