Description

**Since 1998, Valstad Mill has been managed by the Västervik Museum Foundation, following a donation by Ingegerd Jakobsson, widow of the last miller.

Today, the environment at Valstad Mill consists of two connected mill buildings, one from the 18th century and the other from 1867. In the past, there were also several small farm buildings here as well as a sawmill, a bone stamp and a spinning mill, but only a few traces of these remain in the form of foundation remains. The mill was converted from pure water power to turbine operation in 1941 and operated until 1970 when the mill operation was discontinued.

In 2001, an EU project was launched to carry out extensive restoration work. In addition to the buildings themselves, operational details such as the turbine, mill wheel, water chute and sluice gates were restored, enabling the mill to be restarted. The mill environment was recreated as it looked in the 1940s. Inside the mill, the entire working environment is intact and a number of tours of the site were held in conjunction with the project and restoration. The project was completed in 2003.
