Description

A nature trail that takes you on a lovely walk along the coast starts from the parking area at Svartö harbour. Your eyes will meet sea, pine forest, and an oak landscape, with fragrant lily of the valley.

The part of the nature trail marked with yellow and blue posts is 2 kilometres long, and the trail with blue and white posts is 5 kilometres long.

Traditional village

Svartö is a living village in the Mönsterås archipelago. It dates back to the 14th century, although the present village was established in the 1800s.Today it accommodates both residents and holiday makers. The harbour by the northern parking area is an outpost for residents and visitors going to Vållö.

Coastal walk

The nature trail Svartö naturstig winds through pine forest with the sea always present. Along the path is a beach and grill areas.

Bird encounters

White-tailed eagles regularly patrol the Svartö peninsula. Along the coast are good opportunities for spotting Sweden’s biggest tern, Caspian tern. Another visitor is great egret, which is rapidly increasing in Sweden and often seen together with its relative the grey heron. From the forest comes the call of the cuckoo, and a large colony of great cormorants can be seen from the headland Hällsudden.
