Description
The stonemasonry museums
Welcome to visit Stenhuggarmuseerna & Stenhuggarleden. A little less than a mile south of Oskarshamn is Vånevik, which was also the center of the stone industry from 1870 until the mid-1950s. In the museum in Vånevik you can learn about the history of the stone industry. The museum association Hård Klang has built a workplace with a stonemason's shed, grinding shed, smithy and food shed.
The exhibition about the stone industry on Näset was opened in 2012 and is located 3 km north of Vånevik. It's good to know that the stonemasonry museums in Vånevik and Näset are also always open.

The stonemasonry trail
Here you can walk along quays that were paved more than 100 years ago. Piles of scrap stone line the tracks of old rall roads and the sun is reflected in water-filled quarries. You can also scan QR codes with your smartphone along the Stonemasonry Trail, which will lead you to a digital guide to the site. In total there are 15 QR codes along the trail.
You choose whether you listen to the guide with or without headphones, but remember to have the battery charged and preferably a power bank to make sure the battery in your phone lasts.
Map of the trail can be found here
Swimming and coffee
If you want to swim, a dip at Södra kajen in Vånevik is perfect. Unfortunately, there is no coffee to buy along the Stenhuggarleden but feel free to bring something to munch on. Along the trail there are also many nice places to sit and have a coffee.
