Description

**Spårö båk is located on the island of Spårö in the Tjust archipelago. The boat was designed by Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz. Inspired by a lighthouse Carl had seen in the Naples area, he designed a building with a square plan under a curved peaked roof and from that the boat on Spårö was created.

Spårö båk was built in 1776-1777 and has been considered by many, including Evert Taube, to be one of the most beautiful seascapes on the east coast. The arch is 25 meters high and has 2 meter thick walls at the bottom. It stands on top of the 34 meter high Spåröberget.

The arch was built to facilitate navigation to Västervik. At night and in bad weather, iron baskets of burning tarred wood were stuck out through gaps in the eastern side of the roof. Spårö boat was used in this way until 1884. In 1925, lightning struck the boat and ignited the shingle roof, which was then replaced with a metal roof. Today, Spårö is a popular excursion destination and the archipelago's most famous landmark.
