Description
**Good excursion destination for those who like to hike. The top of Fruberget or Örnberget provides a fantastic view of the area.
Two trails run through the two nature reserves Segersgärde and Kvarntorpet, both about 2.5 kilometers long. They start from the two main parking lots of the reserves. For those really interested in hiking, there is also a connecting trail of 1.2 km that makes it possible to hike both trails together. More connection points are available to the trails, not least if you want a faster route to stunning viewpoints in the reserves. The reward for those who climb Örnberget or Fruberget is a breathtaking view of the sea and the archipelago. On Örnberget you can also see the Habor cliff and just south of Fruberget's highest point are the remains of an ancient castle.
The hiking trail that starts from the main parking lot in Segersgärde (the one that is signposted from Norrlandsleden) first goes through pastures to the west where the flowering is rich in spring with, among other things, various orchid species. The trail continues along the slope of Fruberget, which is rich in large broadleaf trees where you can see traces of meadow use in the form of old pollarded trees. The trail then goes north through the mixed coniferous forest and then you go up the quartzite mountain, and to its top 67 meters above sea level. There is a wonderful view and with good visibility you can see both Lofta and Gamleby churches and further out towards the archipelago's many islands. There are several strangely twisted hundred-year-old pines here. At the top of Fruberget, you can then descend to the northern parking lot of Segersgärde Nature Reserve or choose to walk down the mountain south through the thinned woodland into the pastures to arrive back at the main parking lot. Here you look out over Gamlebyviken, the bird-rich islets and further out Jungfruholmen, which is a bird protection area to protect bird life there. South of the main parking lot there are also a number of picnic tables to enjoy a coffee break.
Eastwards from the main parking lot in Segersgärde, there is a connecting trail to Kvarntorpets nature reserve, first along the coastal meadows, which during the spring have a rich bird life. The trail then continues north through flowering pastures and large lime trees before crossing the Norrlandsleden trail to the entrance to Kvarntorpet and its separate hiking trail. Once there, the trail goes east along richly flowering pastures to the parking lot in Kvarntorpet nature reserve. From this parking lot you can then follow the trail through beautiful pastures and grazed forests south along the water in the direction of Segersgärde. Here the trail splits where you can either head north again towards the entrance to the parking lot in Kvarntorpets nature reserve or continue further south to the southern parking lot of Segersgärde nature reserve. From the latter, there is finally a short loop to the east up to the top of Örnberget with the Habor cliff and with a wonderful view of the archipelago.
