Description

A varied landscape with deciduous mixed forests, broadleaf forests, pine forests, lakes and streams characterizes this nature reserve. Here you can hike on the East Coast Trail along the rushing Götehults stream or on your own in the shore forests along Lake Göten. Perhaps you will see one of the many species worth protecting that live here?

Out in nature

The East Coast Trail takes you through old, sparse deciduous and coniferous forests that lie beautifully along Götehultsströmmen. Some stretches are hiker-friendly and easily accessible. Others are more adventurous where you have to step over fallen trees and make your way through thickets.

Forest with diversity

Norra Göten is a haven for species that do not thrive in managed forests, where old trees and dead wood are in short supply. There are several hundred-year-old oaks, stumps, dead tree trunks and branches. The reserve is therefore a place where you can see unusual species such as the candelabra fungus, pale lichen, coral tag fungus, yellow-powdered spike lichen, flower beard lichen and lung lichen.

Below the surface

The lakes and streams of the nature reserve are part of the Marströmmen water system, which is part of the EU's Natura 2000 ecological network of protected areas. One of the reasons why Marströmmen was designated a Natura 2000 site is that the rare fish, the nissöga, lives here. The water system is also valuable for sea trout and whitefish.
