Description
Memorial stone for Vilhelm Moberg
At the site of Vilhelm Moberg's birthplace and first residence, Algutsboda Hembygdsförening takes care of the Moberg stone. There is a fence and a bench where you can sit and drink coffee and a sign with a map and information that takes you further in Vilhelm Moberg's literary footsteps.
The soldier's hut where Moberg grew up no longer exists. It was demolished in 1924. Moberg's parents had seven children and only some of them lived to adulthood. It is said how poor they were in the soldiers' hut. The children had to stay indoors in winter because they had no proper shoes. In summer they had to be outside without shoes until the fall when the frost came. The toilet was a pit in the forest. What a journey Moberg made during his lifetime! It was in 1970 that the parishioners erected the stone. It is beautifully situated on a small hill. Visit it and soak up the atmosphere!
Moshultamåla is also home to Vilhelm Moberg's school and Moshults Hostel.
