Description

This 10-kilometre-long nature trail takes you past seven villages. People have cultivated the land here for generations. You walk through a living agricultural landscape with sights such as a stone arch bridge, milestone, trapping pit, and the ruins of a cloister church.

The nature trail starts at the parking area in Åsevad and continues on paved roads, cycle tracks, and dirt roads. The trail is marked with blue and white posts.

Traces in the landscape

The nature trail takes you through a district where humans have had an impact for many centuries. Clearance cairns, stone walls, and pollarded trees all bear witness of cultivation. For example, at Kråkebäck the dirt road is lined with stone walls of impressive width! Pollarded trees are recognised by their candelabra-like growth, with the branches originating from the same place on the trunk.

Visit an old cloister

The first time Kronobäck is mentioned in historical records is 1480. This is when it was decided that the village hospital would be taken over by monks of the Order of St John, also known as the Knights Hospitallers. The hospital was rebuilt as a cloister and you can still see the beautiful ruins.
