Description

The Hulteglänns nature reserve is home to outstanding biodiversity. The old, moist deciduous forest is a good environment for sensitive lichens, mosses and fungi. The herb flora is also rich and lush, especially in spring and early summer.

Old, untouched forest

Large parts of the reserve are deciduous forest with a lot of oak. With the exception of a few small clearings, the forest has not been cultivated for several decades, so there are trees of all ages and sizes. There are plenty of old trees and decaying wood. All the moss-covered boulders, which are scattered in the hilly terrain, emphasize the feeling of untouched troll forest.

Splendid herbs

Visitors to Hulteglänn in spring and early summer have the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic wealth of herbs. Spring pea, wood anemone, musk, lungwort and witch hazel are just a few examples of what you can expect to see. One explanation for the lush vegetation is that the bedrock consists of basic rocks, so-called greenstone.

Endangered species

Moisture trails and deep, water-filled block depressions contribute to stable and high humidity. Add leafy old forest and rich soil and you have a natural environment suitable for a number of demanding fungi, mosses and lichens. Many of the reserve's species have imaginative names such as candelabra fungus, lung lichen, flowering beard lichen and woodland moss. All of these are listed on the national red list of threatened or endangered species.
