Description

Fliserydskvillen is a 4-kilometre-long branch of the river Emån. Walk and fish in a beautiful countryside that in summer makes you think of the tropics.

Kvillar

“Kvill” means a branch of a watercourse. Along the river Emån there are such branches at Fliserydskvillen and Jungnerholmarna. Fliserydskvillen is one of the most important spawning sites for salmon and sea trout.

Habitats for many

The leafy surroundings give a feeling of walking along a watercourse in a tropical forest; but to the sound of black woodpecker and crested tit. The riparian forest is sometimes flooded, which means that there is always plenty of dead wood. This provides the conditions for a rich fauna, including everything from wood-living beetles to woodpeckers which find food in the rotting wood.

Walking

Walking along Fliserydskvillen can be challenging. The terrain is partly hilly, but almost always in sight of the river Emån. From Fliseryd you can walk west along Fliserydskvillen on the more than 80 kilometres long Mönsteråsleden Trail. A good starting point is, for example Skorpetorp.

Return to streaming water

In 2019 the mill pond at Åby kvarn was demolished. Already the next year salmon and sea trout returned to the spawning sites upstream of the mill, which had been inaccessible for more than 150 years. Another measure during the watercourse restoration was to place stones on the river bed. This helps create stretches of rapids where you may see white-throated dipper, grey wagtail, and kingfisher.
