Welcome to Hökesån-Hallebo!
Hökesån is a stream that stretches from lake Vättern to lake Hökessjön. It is nearly covered by nature reserves that are established at different times. The meandering stream of Hökesån is valuable because of its animal life. Fish like trout, alpine bullhead and grayling are mating here. At some places there are colonies of the rare and protected freshwater pearl mussel. This freshwater pearl mussel can reach ages above 200 years, but it is very sensitive when it comes to reproducing.
The area also contains a lot of dead wood which give insects, fungi, lichens and mosses a good habitat. And where there are lots of insects, the insects eating birds will come. Except from woodpeckers this reserve also houses i.e. white-throated dipper, grey wagtail and common kingfisher.
Explore the reserve
This reserve starts south from the road Bränningeleden south of Habo. There are no trails that follow the stream, but a jogging track crosses the reserve at some places. If you want to enjoy Hökesån where it is easier to walk by the stream, we recommend you to visit its neighbour reserve, that is called Hökesån. It goes through the small town Habo and is easy to reach.

The usual right of public access do not fully apply in the nature reserve. In addition to all other legal restrictions you are prohibited from:
