Description
The name, Slammeråsen, comes from the noise made by the vehicles as they travelled along the dreadful road across Käringberget (Old Crone’s Hill).
The cart track was also called the King’s Road or Pilgrims’ Way. The road was built along a previous byway and pilgrims’ way. The road embankment is still visible.
The village of Slammeråsen was founded after 1650 and was deserted by the end of the 19th century. Now only the foundations of the houses remain.
Slammeråsen is the home of the Baptria Tibiale moth which is threatened with extinction. It is dependent on the Actaea spicata (Baneberry).
Here you can find trollduvemätare, trollduva, bastardsvärmare, silverstreckad pärlemorfjäril, guckusko, turkos blåvinge, violett guldvinge, ormrot och sälg.
