Reindeer separation is the process of separating the reindeer in a mixed herd according to the different owners. In spring and summer, the reindeer are up in the mountains, but for the winter, the Sami communities gather the reindeer together and move them to a reindeer separation fence. During the separation, the reindeer are divided into smaller groups, counted and treated for parasites. The reindeer are also selected for slaughter during the separation process.
