Description
Kånkback
In 1975, a 38,000-year-old mammoth tusk was found in a gravel pit in Kånkback. The tusk is Sweden's most well-preserved and can be seen at Jamtli in Östersund. At the site you can see several layers of soil types formed during different time periods. Among other things, you can find hard lumps of minerals that look like fossilized bones or turtle shells. They are called marleka and have grown here after the end of the last ice age.
