Tylöns naturreservat

  • Nature reserve
of 5 stars

Actions

Description

Tylön is the only island in southern Halland and is mostly covered in heather and grassland. The reserve has a rich bird life. There is also a stately lighthouse with associated lighthouse keeper's houses. Due to the sensitive bird life, access to most of the island is prohibited between April 1 and July 15.

The island is located just outside Tylösand, only 500 meters from Tyludden. Tylön is best known for its rich bird life, which was the reason why the island and surrounding waters were protected as early as 1927. Eiders nest in large numbers, and there are also colonies of oystercatchers and grey gulls. Other breeding birds include common tern, dunlin, little auk, sandpiper, oystercatcher and avocet.
