Eketånga, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Hallands län
Actions
Description
Eketånga consists of a coastal sandy area covered with mixed forest, mainly pine and birch. The nature reserve is easily accessible from the surrounding towns and many visitors walk and exercise on the paths every day. It is mainly the importance of the area for outdoor life that makes Eketånga protected as a reserve.
The entire area, which is 19 hectares, is wooded. Most of it is mixed forest, with mainly pine and birch growing on the gently undulating dunes. A smaller part consists of coniferous forest. The ground vegetation is of the heath type with bilberry, crowberry and heather. The trees in Eketånga will be allowed to remain in place and reach maximum age.
Previously there was no forest
For a long time, Eketånga was probably a cold airfield. In 1863, the area was transferred to the state with the condition that the area would become a forest. In the 1860s and 1870s, pine, mountain pine and birch were therefore planted. The vegetation that exists today in addition to these three tree species has arisen spontaneously.
