Description

Tröskens rikkärr is a 459-hectare undeveloped landscape with natural wetlands, water areas and forests. In the nature reserve, you can go fishing, canoeing, hiking or ice skating in winter. Or take a break at the picnic area and look out over Lake Matyx. The area is influenced by calcareous moraine from the Bothnian Sea and the flora is unusually rich. At least fifteen orchid species are found in the reserve. The rare orchids yellow saxifrage and knotweed are unusually abundant and are found in many places. There are difficult to access reedbeds and mudflats, species-rich rich marshes, old spruce forests, swamp forests, lush river banks and pine-clad islands.

Valuable for many

Southeast of Grinduga and at Matyxsjön there are fine examples of extreme rich bogs with typical species such as axagus, beaked sedge and marsh marigold. In some places there are broadleaf groves with elm and lime trees. Southwest of Matyxsjön there is an area of highly resistant old spruce forest.

The area also contains rare or endangered species of birds, beetles, mosses, lichens and fungi. Bees, brown harriers, ospreys and lark falcons nest in the area. In Trösken's reeds, the bittern and the small-spotted moorhen can be heard. The very rare swamp velvet beetle lives in Tröskens.
