Description

Långängarna is an excursion destination that is particularly beautiful in the spring when bluebells and spring peas are in bloom. The fertile land is now covered in forest but was once farmed. Here you can watch birds and look at plants. Långängarnas nature reserve is located 6.5 kilometers southwest of the church in Sandviken and covers 33 hectares. About 150 years ago, Se village in Ovansjö parish used the land for haymaking.

The land has been left to grow again. Today, only traces of the agricultural landscape that once existed here can be seen, such as stone walls and shallow ditches. There have also been around ten meadow barns in the area.

Valuable for many

Now it is a mixed forest of mainly aspen and spruce that grows on the nutrient-rich land. The coarse aspens of the long meadows have felt lichens growing on the swollen tree bases. The deciduous trees elm, maple, lime and ash also grow in the area.

There is a rich flora in the nature reserve with, for example, dark lungwort, witch hazel, thistle, stinkweed and wood vetch.

There is a rich bird life here and, among other things, lesser spotted woodpecker, lesser flycatcher, wood pigeon and woodpecker nest in the area.
