Kungsberg-Åshammar, Gästrikeleden etapp 7

**Forest, history and living wetlands

This stage offers a hike that mostly winds its way along soft forest paths. In Ovansjö Kronopark you will be greeted by mighty old trees and traces of the Ice Age - shingle fields that clearly show where the sea levels once were.

Just before Härnen, at Kungsberget, you will find a newly renovated shelter with a barbecue area, an excellent stop for an overnight stay or a longer break. Along the trail there is also a beautifully located shelter at Hedarna for more break opportunities.

The trail has a new footbridge that crosses an area with a recently closed ditch. This work was done in collaboration between Sveaskog and Sandviken Municipality as part of a project to restore wetlands and revitalize the rich biodiversity associated with these environments. The ecopark has recently been given a boost with new trails and shelters - perfect if you want to stay an extra day and explore more.

When you reach Åshammar, you can round off the hike with a refreshing dip at the rest area Sågdammen - a perfect end to a scenic trip.
