Description
Kårsberget is 66 hectares in size and is one of Gästrikland's natural forests. Here you can hike the short trail over the rocks up the mountain to enjoy the view. Or have a barbecue at the fire pit by the shallow forest lake at the northern tip of the reserve. On the rocky ground at the top of Kårsberget there are pine trees that are up to 250 years old. From the top you can look at the view between ancient pines.
Along the mountainside, large boulders have broken loose and fallen haphazardly down the northern mountainside. It's as if a giant has knocked over a box of giant building blocks. Trees such as spruce, birch and aspen also grow in the reserve.
The trees growing here are old and gnarled, and in some places a tree has fallen over and lies like a silvery white skeleton. Many insects, fungi and lichens live in the dead wood.
Violet-grey thorn lichen grows here, as well as fungi such as winter thorn, spruce thorn mushroom and border thorn. The orchid knotweed also thrives here.

Follow road 68 and turn towards Hästbo, south of Torsåker. Continue over the railway to Österhästbo and on towards Gammelstilla, about five kilometers until you see a wooden sign for the reserve on the right.
