Grävna Knippans domänreservat, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Gävleborgs län
Actions
Description
Walk softly on the moss carpet under pine and spruce. Here in Grävna Knippan is one of the county's oldest and most untouched forests. The forest has seen neither saw nor axe for hundreds of years. If the oldest pine tree, an old man of 400 years, could tell us everything it has seen, it would be a long story about pawing foxes and chattering woodpeckers.
Grävna knippan is located 8 kilometers northwest of Järbo and covers 12 hectares. Here, change happens slowly.
The spruce seed that germinates and grows up becomes, after a long life, a fallen tree where fungi and mosses take back the nutrients stored in the trunk and branches. Then the process starts all over again.
As a visitor, you can enjoy the peaceful tranquillity. Every now and then, it is broken by the chirping of a tufted titmouse, the cracking of branches as the moose flees or the capercaillie takes to the wings.
