Description

Dead trees breathe life into the forest in Krokbäcken. Combined with the high humidity, this supports many different species.
Just west of Horndal, Krokbäcken winds its way through a valley. The area’s greatest natural values are found around the stream, with old trees, dead wood, and several endangered and rare species. Among other things, you can find the small orchid known as the early marsh orchid here, with its tiny white flowers on a spike.

In the western part of the nature reserve, the stream has carved out a ravine. The steep slopes are mostly covered with spruce, but there are also plenty of large pines and old birches. Here, the humidity is high, and there are many dead trees.

Further east, there are both young forests and clear-cut areas, as well as a small stand of old-growth pine forest that enhances the area’s natural value. The area is to be allowed to develop freely.
