Description
From the highest point on Tärnö, Drakaberget, you can see more than half of the Blekinge coastline. There are walking trails around the island and the island offers excellent swimming.
Tärnö is in fact two nature reserves, created in 1980 and 1988. They cover four separate parts of Tärnö and the eastern part of the island Yttre Ekö. Tärnö is located on the outermost edge of the Hällaryd archipelago and is its largest island.
The nature is varied with rocky outcrops, shingle beaches, broadleaf woodland, overgrown grazing land, former arable land and sandy beaches. Fiskgökaeken is the name of a hollow oak tree hundreds of years old, one of many large, ancient oaks on Tärnö High up on the southern headland of the island there is an eight-sided lighthouse built entirely in wood, dating from 1910.
The island is a popular tourist destination in the summer and has services in the form of a guest marina, a shop, restaurant and holiday cottage rental. The easiest way to reach the island is on the archipelago boats from Karlshamn or Matvik.
The rules for the nature reserve are shown in the link below, but, for example, dogs must be kept on a lead, you may not light fires other than in a place designated for the purpose, damage living or dead trees and bushes, or vegetation in general by digging up plants, or pitch a tent or moor a boat for more than 48 hours.
