Hoka, Naturreservat

  • Nature reserve
of 5 stars

Actions

Description

When you visit the Hoka nature reserve, you can walk on a gravel ridge covered with deciduous trees and pine next to the lush banks of Mieån. The ridge is a preserved remnant of Mieåsen.

The nature reserve was originally established to protect an unexploited part of the Mieådalen ice river deposits.

Ådal valley

In the Mieån valley, a large amount of glacial ice river deposits give the river valley its character. In Hoka, a well-preserved part of the gravel ridge Mieåsen runs along the eastern side of the river.

In the small nature reserve Hoka you can walk on the forested ridge with its lush tree layer, dominated by oak, beech and pine. In the field layer you can find, for example, lily of the valley, marsh poppy and woodland bengal. The gravel slopes also have their own special dry meadow flora with species such as wood anemone, wood sorrel and sundew. Below the ridge, a small dirt road leads south from the parking lot. Along the river, alder trees shade the north, while an old, still open river meadow takes over to the south. The vegetation is abundant with, among other things, torchflowers, meadow grass, sea lilies, comfrey, meadowsweet and water clover.
