Description
The Finnamaden nature reserve is located along the eastern side of the Nättrabyån river. When you visit the reserve, you will experience a varied and species-rich area with wooded slopes and damp meadows.
Along the river, a mad spreads out. A mad is a wet meadow dominated by sedges and herbs. They were once used for grazing and haymaking. Traces of this can be seen in the reserve in the form of cairns and stone walls. South of the mead there is a small alder forest that is partly flooded at high tide. Parts of the river are included in the reserve.
Plants in a humid environment
The surrounding land is a more or less steep wooded slope. In the southern half of the slope there are some spring flows. There, among other things, there grows sedge and brook sedge, which thrive in the moist environment.
Along a stream in the northern parts of the reserve there is a large area of older elms. The soil is moist, which means that many species of mosses grow here, such as trap moss, flat feather moss and golden curl moss.
The lichen flora is also rich in species, with rare species such as glossy spot, maple lichen, monastery lichen and pale crater lichen. The elm forest is also home to the highly endangered and protected fern plant, the bracken fern.
