Arvidstorp, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Blekinge län
Actions
Description
When you visit the nature reserve, you will experience a well-preserved pebble ridge, beautifully located next to the western shore of Lake Arvidstorp. A gravel road follows the course of the ridge. For those who like to hike, Blekingeleden passes through the area.
The small reserve of Arvidstorp is an elongated ridge formed by deposits from the ice river. The moraine material in the form of sand, gravel and stone has been left by the meltwater of the ice sheet. Mixed forest grows along the ridge.
Above the highest coastline
When the ice sheet started to melt, the highest coastline of the Baltic Sea was 65 meters above the current sea level. Arvidstorpsåsen is above the coastline of that time with a highest point of 78 meters above sea level in the northern part. Therefore, it has never been affected by the sea and retains its sharp goat ridge shape.
The ridges in the Arvidstorp, Skuremåla, Mölleryd and Johannishus nature reserves form a context and are a landscape of great geological interest. The reserves are examples of various ridge and delta formations that arose when the inland ice melted.
Mixed forests of mostly oak, pine, spruce and birch grow on the sides of the ridge. Along the shore there is an area with shrubs of silver birch, pine, alder and willow.
