Daytrip: Kayak- and biketrip from island to island - a roundtrip from Tjurkö to Sturkö and back

Ready for an adventure combining the best of both worlds? Experience Tjurkö and Sturkö – two of Blekinge ’s largest islands – from both water and land on this delightful ARK56 tour with kayak and bike within the Biosphere reserve Blekinge Archipelago.

You choose how the day starts

You can begin the day in the kayak or on the bike – and on either Tjurkö or Sturkö. Why not let the wind decide so you have a tailwind as you paddle?

On the map here you find the whole ARK56 kayak and bike road that leads from Tjurkö to Senoren and Stenshamn. You follow only the part between Tjurkö and Sturkö Camping.

Rent a kayak and bike

The tour runs between Tjurkö Camping / Stenbräcka Course & Retreat Center and Sturkö Camping. Both locations offer kayak and bike rentals. It’s easy to drop off your gear at either location to switch modes – just mention it when booking.

Time to start cycling...

In this description, we start from Tjurkö. You can reach it easily by bus from Karlskrona or by archipelago ferry, which stops at Tjurkö Herrgårdsviken during the summer.

The bike route is a pleasant countryside ride past charming wooden houses and across the Djupasundet bridge with views south toward Sturkö and Ekenabben harbour. It’s worth taking a small detour to visit the exhibition about the sund’s overlooked (g(l)ömda) shipwrecks.

Then you can choose to cycle south or north, following the ARK56 cycle trail, before turning right to finish your ride at Sturkö Camping. The distance is about 10 km.

The return trip by water

Once you arrive at Sturkö Camping, leave your bike, grab a snack at the kiosk, and paddle north toward Senoren. You’ll pass a lovely oak landscape in the Västra Skällö Nature Reserve and then paddle under the bridge.

Follow Sturkö’s northern coast and cross over to Tjurkö at Sanda harbour. Then paddle around Tjurkö’s northern tip back to Stenbräcka Course & Retreat Center. The total paddling distance is around 20 km, so plan a few hours to enjoy the journey.

A glass of wine at sunset

Finish the day with dinner at Bibbis Skärgårdscafé – paired with a glass of local wine from Tjurkö – before catching the bus back. Or why not stay overnight at the campsite to explore Tjurkö’s stonecutting history and the amazing art at Skärgårdskraft’s exhibition the next day?
