Love Blekinge with care – outdoor life with respect

Blekinge’s Archipelago and Coastal Landscape
Blekinge’s archipelago and coastal landscape offer experiences that are hard to find anywhere else. Here, birds, seals, and grazing animals coexist with cultural environments that have carried stories for hundreds of years. It is the meeting between nature and history that gives this place its special character. To ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy these environments, we all need to show some extra care when spending time outdoors.
Spread out the adventure
The most famous spots often get crowded during the summer. But Blekinge is full of bays, forests, and trails waiting to be discovered. Often, it is at the less well-known places that the greatest experiences are found.

Travel with care
Cycling along the coastal trails, kayaking between the islands, or walking gives you a closer and richer experience than taking the car. The pace becomes slower, and nature more present. When that’s not possible, choose public transport instead of your own car.

Check the rules
The Right of Public Access gives great freedom, but in nature reserves and national parks, the rules can be stricter. This may include where you are allowed to make a fire, camp, or move around during certain times of the year. By reading the signs and following the rules, you help protect sensitive environments.

Make fires wisely
Only make fires at designated sites and always pay attention to fire risk and fire bans. Avoid making fires directly on rocks – they crack and leave permanent scars.

Show respect on the water
The archipelago is best experienced from a kayak or boat, but remember that wildlife is sensitive. Birds and seals need peace to breed and rest. Keep your distance from protected areas.

Take your litter home
Always pack out your trash and food leftovers. Leaving the place cleaner than when you arrived makes a big difference – both for nature and for the next visitor.

Bring your dog the right way
Keep your dog on a leash. From March to August, it is especially important to have your dog leashed. This is when many animals have young, and a loose dog can disturb or frighten wildlife.

Motorhomes and caravans
The freedom is great with a motorhome or caravan, but it has its limits. Driving off-road is not permitted, and the rules for overnight stays vary between municipalities. Always check what applies where you are.

With care for nature and culture
Blekinge Archipelago is both a biosphere reserve and part of the World Heritage Site Karlskrona. Here, sea, forest, farmland, and cultural environments meet in a way that is rare in the world. Through small considerate choices – like closing a gate, choosing local food, taking your litter home, or showing respect to animals and nature – we help preserve Blekinge’s environments and experiences for future generations.
