**Ekholmens Farm

Ekholmens Gård in Gunnarsnäs parish, Mellerud municipality, is one of the more unique in the country. The main building was built in 1799 by the lieutenant Carl Hierta, while the west wing is said to date from 1785. The main building is timbered and has a slate-covered hipped gable roof. The facades of the building are also slate-clad. The cornices, cornice boxes and window surrounds are painted white and glow effectively against the gray-black slate. The portal is flanked by somewhat oddly proportioned, polygonal columns. The King's Room is named after Charles XIV Johan, who spent the night here and, according to tradition, slept in the great imperial bed.

Ekholmen is located in the area where Dalboslätten meets Kroppefjäll. The glacial clay of Dalboslätten is fine agricultural land. The eastern edge of Kroppefjäll is part of the so-called Dal Formation, which is an approximately eleven hundred million (1,100,000,000) year old sedimentary series that also contains volcanic rocks.

**Ekholmen café & farm shop

The wing building, which dates from 1785, houses a café and farm shop. The café has plenty of coffee to choose from. They also serve light lunches such as various pies, baked potatoes and their own large sandwiches with shrimp, meatballs and brie / salami. Pancakes and waffles are also on the menu. There is a wonderful veranda to sit on with a view of Kroppefjäll and a lovely terrace in the garden.

They can accommodate about 45 people indoors and more outdoors. In the farm shop you can buy their own locally produced beef and many other products such as juices, jams, honey, rapeseed oils, spices, biscuits, etc. During July - August, tours of the museum are organized on Sundays at 13.00.
