Continue your
journey through the beautiful landscape. By Lake Ömmeln, there is a nice rest
area for a break. The route continues towards Svaneholm on an asphalt road that
winds between houses, horse paddocks and through small groves of trees.

Svaneholm
– a hub

Discover the old station house, ride a railbike and spend the night in an old
train carriage at Joytrail. In the station building, nothing has changed
since the last train ran in 1966. Here you’ll find a ticket office, waiting
room, and office space, all in their original condition. A must for history
enthusiasts.

You can
find more activities and adventures at Survival Center Svaneholm, which offers tailored wilderness
experiences ranging from rock climbing to exciting hikes. Svanskog Canoe Center is located in the heart of one of
Sweden’s most beautiful canoeing areas. You can rent canoes, kayaks and
motorboats. There are also ready-made tour packages available, making it easy
for both families and adventure-seekers to enjoy a memorable experience.

For a great
meal, head to Svanskog Pizzeria – Gyllene Svanen, where the young gourmetpizza-chef
Tobias serves delicious pizzas made with ingredients from local producers. The
dough often sells out quickly, so be sure to plan ahead.

Spend the
night like a true estate manager at the magnificent Svaneholm herrgård. The manor's stately park stretches all the
way down to the shoreline of the idyllic lake Mellan-Svan.

Rustic
elegance, symmetry and simplicity meet blooming rococo

Visit von Echstedtska gården, the most remarkable of Värmland’s
still preserved older farms. Rustic elegance, symmetry and simplicity, biblical
scenes and solemn austerity meet blooming painting and curvy rococo. The house
is a strict Carolinian manor, built in 1762. Don’t miss the beautiful outdoor
toilet with fantastic ceiling paintings.

In the
café, sandwiches, soup, and classic Swedish fika are served along with a carefully
curated coffee menu. The farm also features an herb garden filled with magical
herbs and an apple orchards with different apple varieties from Värmland.

The road to
Nysäter follows both asphalt and gravel through varied landscapes and along
winding village roads.

Nysäter,
a village with ancient traditions

Take a
well-deserved break and explore Nysäter. Enjoy a fika at the charming Gilla
Café and pay a
visit to Josefin at Gillis & Flora in the old country store. Here
you’ll find beautiful home decor items, traditional crafts from Värmland,
locally produced delicasies and flowers.

A must for
all history enthusiasts is a visit to the Värmland Vikingcenter in Nysäter. The museum's large
exhibition features reconstructed street and home environments, complete with human
figures. Here you can listen to how it might have sounded on such a street and
see various crafts and tools. Families with children often stay for a long time
as there is much to see and do in the area. Acitivities include a playground,
stone labyrinth, hiking trails, Viking village, and a swimming area by the
river, as well as large grassy areas for play.

In the same
area lies Kungshögen, one of three burial mounds along
the Byälven river believed to be the grave of the legendary king Olof Trätälja.
Nearby are the unique market stalls that have served as a
marketplace since the mid-18th century. The stalls are still in use
today.

Along a
smooth asphalt road, you continue cycling beside the sparkling Byälven River,
past fields, small farms, and through forests toward Borgvik.

Borgvik – Värmland's best preserved former industrial environment

In Borgvik you can cycle along magically beautiful cultural and former industrial environments, and stop at the ruins of hut shelters to learn more about the ironworks that used to be here. In the hut shelter ruins there are tables where you can rest or enjoy your picnic. You can also eat at the Kungskvarnen, the Sliperiet or the harbour café. Public toilets are available in the stone building next to Borgvik Museum (open in summer).

Get a good night's rest at Klaraborg or Kungskvarnen.

Take your time and experience more of Borgvik

Visit Oscar Magnusson's art gallery Sliperiet, book a guided historical or dramatised guided tour. Get inspired at Borgvik's antiques and bric-a-brac shop, take a look at Hampus Karlsson's art studio, rent a kayak, canoe or SUP at Vänerkajak, have a coffee or swim at Borgvik's harbour café, walk the Lövåsslingan or Bokskogsslingan, swim at Sparnäs bathing place or just enjoy the beautiful surroundings at the shores of lake Vänern. During the month of July you can take your bike on the boat bus to Grums or Hammarö.

Continue your journey towards Karlstad

On this route you'll be cycling both on a paved road and on a gravel road past Flokerud. There you will find a renovated bus shelter that can be used for a rest break or as a rain shelter. At the end of the route, you can also enjoy a break on the veranda at Kullens Bigård, which sells honey and honey products.

In Hasseldalen there is a bathing spot with a diving tower, a kiosk open in summer, toilets and changing rooms (only available when the kiosk is open). Take a detour to Mimmi Design in Pikenberg before cycling on to Skruvstad and Vålberg on your way to Karlstad.
