Description
The present church was built around 1300 and consisted of a nave, vestry and porch. The exterior of the medieval church in Skultuna is more reminiscent of the 18th century than the Middle Ages. It was then that the church took on its current form, with a new chancel and tower. But the exterior also bears clear features from the early 1900s, when the neo-baroque stone portals were added.
The church is strongly influenced by the brassworks that Charles IX founded in the parish in 1607. Over the years, many mill patrons have helped to refurbish and rebuild the church. A large number of brass objects from the mill have also found their way to the church. These include the baptismal bowl from 1673, the seven-armed candlestick behind the altar, the crucifix group on the pulpit door and several chandeliers and candle plates. It is also the mill that has made the church a little secluded, a few kilometers south of the town, as it was at the mill, and not at the church, that most people settled.
