Description
A short boat trip in Mälaren's sparkling archipelago takes you to Hästholmarna, which consists of five islands, but the larger islands Elba, Östra holmen and Västra holmen. Here you will find smooth rocks and sandy beaches, perfect for swimming and picnics on a sunny summer day. If you get hungry or crave ice cream, there is a café on the East islet during the summer.
During the summer, the Elba ferry runs regularly between Västerås and Hästholmarna and for those with their own boat there are piers to dock at. During the winter, when the ice has settled over Lake Mälaren, you can instead go here on skates or walk on the ice. There are hiking trails on Elba and Östra holmen.
