Description
Betarsjön is the county's largest lake and one of the region's largest unregulated forest lakes. The lake flows into the Ångermanälven river via the similarly unregulated Röån. This unspoiled nature is Röån and Betarsjön's greatest conservation value. The tributaries Ruskån and Rinnån function as reproduction areas for Betarsjön's trout. The lake's more original fish population is representative of a large forest lake under the HK with whitefish, vendace and dace, among others.
Of botanical interest is also the presence of torch flowers on the lake shores. This species has its only habitat here in the Ångermanland hinterland. Breeding birds include the common loon and whooper swan. Betarsjön is used extensively for recreational fishing and other outdoor activities. At Hållstaudden there is a nice bathing area with sandy beaches, a popular destination for families with children.
The lake is an oasis, mainly during the summer months, for swimming, playing and canoeing. From here you can paddle on to Röån.
