Description
The Valfrid Paulsson Natura 2000 site is an old domain reserve that was first called Blåtjärnsreservatet, but was renamed in 1991 after the retiring Director General of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, Valfrid Paulsson, who grew up in the area. Today, the area is voluntarily set aside by Sveaskog and is part of the Skatan ecopark.
In the western part is a pebble ridge with old natural pine forest. In the middle of the area are the two Blåtjärnarna lakes. In the southern part of the area there are also really old pines, some over 300 years old.
There are many threatened species associated with old sand pine forest, especially fungi and insects.
The Ice River Trail runs through the area.
