Description
The hike between Borgafjäll and Saxnäs is challenging at times. It starts at the entrance in Borgafjäll and ends at the parking lot below Satsfjället.
At first, the trail is easy to walk through the mountain birch forest to Matt-Jon's Sami village and then becomes increasingly rocky and steep. Once up on the bare mountain, you are treated to majestic views of Borgafjäll, Avasjön and not least Borgahällan's 800 meter high cliffs.
At Gaalloe, 1,160 meters above sea level, there is a rest shelter for a break, but overnight stays are only allowed in emergency situations. It is often very windy at Gaalloe, but it is worth stopping for the view of both Korpådalen in the south and Kultsjödalen in the north.
Norra Borgafjällens nature reserve ends at the municipal border. After that the hike is less steep. You pass the windbreak at the suspension bridge over Satsån. At Satsån it is nice to camp and fish. Remember to buy a fishing license.
Before you reach the parking lot you pass Satsfjället. Up on a slope stands Folke Ricklund's studio. The artist's small cottage is not really a studio, but he often lived and worked there. The cabin is privately owned, but part of it is kept open for visitors to rest.
The parking lot at Satsfjället is about 6 km from Saxnäs.
The art trail is named after the works of art that follow the trail and can be seen as a continuation of the Art Trail that goes to Borgafjäll.
"A good night's sleep" in Borgafjäll
In Borgafjäll you are greeted by the artwork "A good night's sleep" on eastern Lappvallen. The artwork is made by artist Per Enoksson and consists of a stove and a bed.
"Tsïegle" (The signpost) in Saxnäs
At the Satsfjället parking lot and one end of the trail stands "Tsïegle - The signpost". A work of art made of stones and glass like a cairn pointing the way. The artist Tomas Colbengtson wanted to make a work of art that was both a traditional cairn signpost and told about the Sami who lived and worked in the area. The glass in the artwork has the shape of a Sami hut with the doorway facing south-southeast. In the entrance you can peek in on the people who lived here.
