Kovallberget

The natural pine forest on Kovallberget is very old - some trees are up to 500 years old. Over the centuries, there have been frequent fires here, which is revealed by the traces of fire in both living pines and stumps.

Rough, sun-exposed pine trunks are attractive nesting sites for certain insect species, including the rare relict buck. Charred wood is home to typical lichens such as charcoal lichen and wood lichen. In the wetter parts of the area, old willow trees grow, on whose trunks lung lichen and various kidney lichens are often seen.
