Description
Holmön is actually an island group consisting of two larger islands; Holmön and the larger Ängesön, as well as a large number of islets and skerries. The islets have been inhabited since the 15th century. However, archaeological finds show that the islands were used for fishing and seal hunting earlier than that. The island also offered good conditions for agriculture and livestock farming. There are no less than three lighthouses on the islands: Holmögadd, Stora Fjäderägg and Bergudden. The waters in the area are documented to be difficult, and there are numerous wrecks resting on the sea bed. Holmön is particularly famous for its boat builders. Even in the 1940s, the most curved parts of the hull were carved from wind-grown logs.
