Description

An ancient spruce forest can be seen on the eastern slopes of Blaklidkullen. Many of the spruces are between 200 and 300 years old. Many of the oldest trees are draped in witch’s hair and horsehair lichen.

Blakliden is situated in the eastern part of Åsele Municipality between three hills. The reserve extends from the top of Blaklidkullen in the west, down into the valley between Bergvattenkullen and Bräntkullen in the east.

On the top of Blaklidkullen there is a sparse spruce forest with numerous low birch bouquets (a birch that sends out shoots from the bottom of the trunk and looks like a bouquet).

Many traces of fires can be seen in the pine forests. The most visible are the black stumps and old pines bearing fire scarring. However, there have been no fires here for a long time, and the traces that can be seen in the area are at least 150 to 200 years old.
