Description

The visitor is struck by the fact that many of the pines in the area are crooked with a flat crown. This is evidence that the trees are old.
The natural forest in the area is a habitat for several endangered species. The oldest pine trees in the titanium forest are over 300 years old. The spruce forest in the southern part of the reserve is very dense in places, often with elements of swamp forest.

The reserve was established to preserve a mosaic of forest and mire on the crest of the western valley slope of Klarälven. The area is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.

Animals and plants

A number of threatened species are found within the reserve. Among the lichens, Norwegian beak lichen, variegated and violet-grey thorn lichen, and the wood fungi scented skin and wool tick have been noted.

The titan forest also has a rich population of marten and capercaillie. The three-toed woodpecker, the gray woodpecker and the barn owl are occasional breeding birds.
