The highest natural waterfall along the river Klarälven is located in the heart of the historic mill park in Munkfors – a beautiful and popular nature experience.

Munkforsen is the highest natural waterfall along Klarälven, with a drop of 17 meters, attracting many visitors each year.

Munkforsen, summer 2025

Normally, on selected summer days, visitors can experience the waterfall up close when the water is released.
During the summer of 2025, repair work will be carried out on the overflow canal embankment connected to the waterfall. There are therefore no scheduled water releases planned during this period.

Before and after the repairs, it may still be possible to experience the waterfall during periods of high water levels, for example after heavy rainfall.

Information about Munkfors hydropower plant 2025

Fortum will carry out repair work at the Munkfors hydropower plant starting in week 21. The project is expected to be completed during August or September.

During this period, the water level upstream of the power plant will be lowered by approximately one meter. This reduction will be noticeable as far upstream as the Skymnäs power plant. The water level downstream of the Munkfors power plant will not be affected by the work.

The pedestrian bridge between Laxholmen and Mossängen will be closed on days when helicopter operations are taking place.
