Makkaraberg, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Värmlands län
Actions
Description
In 2001, there was a fire in Makkaraberg.
In today's forests, firebreaks are scarce. Many insects and plants are dependent on burnt trees and ground surfaces or the hardwood-dominated forest that emerges after a fire. In 2001, a clear-cut burn was therefore carried out in the western part of the reserve. The vegetation has since been allowed to develop freely.
The reserve was established to preserve and manage a natural forest with older deciduous trees and dead wood that benefits many species. The area is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.
Animals and plants
Three-toed woodpecker, coral root, lung lichen and wire cartilage lichen thrive here.
Facilities
A turning area serves as a parking lot. It is located at the eastern edge of the reserve. There is an information board at the parking lot. A marked trail of 1.5 km starts from the parking lot.
