Kullarna, Naturreservat

  • Nature reserve
of 5 stars

Actions

Description

The marshes in the reserve are home to several species of wading bird, such as the Eurasian Golden Plover, Green Leg, Red-breasted Merganser and Snipe.

Kullarna is a wooded area located on a ridge between lakes Höksjön and Ljusnetjärnarna.

The forest is old in parts, with a lot of 250-year-old pine trees. Up on the heights, the pine dominates, and further down the deciduous trees and spruce increase. Down towards Ljusnetjärnarna, the forest turns into a bog and there is also a bog area in the area closest to the parking lot.

Animals and plants

Characteristic species among the cryptogams (mosses, lichens and fungi) include violet-grey thorn lichen, brown-powdered needle lichen, Norwegian beak lichen, dwarf beaker lichen and old spruce toad. There are several breeding wading birds on the mires in the area around Kullarna, including the golden plover, greenfinch, dunlin and snipe.
