Old coniferous natural forest in Filipstad municipality

Hornkullstorp is a natural forest area containing both sparse rocky pine forests and high-stemmed and more productive spruce forests. Within the reserve there is a large and a number of small bogs and a pond, Orrleken.

Parts of the area consist of pine forest on a thin layer of soil where the mountain is often in the open.

Several small bogs and pure rocky areas are interspersed in the area. The trees are patchy and there are many old and sparsely branched pines, one drilled tree was 250 years old. There are many traces of capercaillie in the area, both droppings and capercaillie-bitten pines.

In the spruce-dominated parts there is limited but increasing dead wood.

The forest in the area is generally at least 160-180 years old and has not been affected by forestry for at least the last 150 years. There are no traces of previous felling in the area today, apart from a few old felling stumps. A few coal beds and occasional coal cow ruins occur, which testify to past land use. 1 kilometer south of the reserve is the Hornkullen silver mine.

There are no facilities for visitors in the reserve.
