Description

The church of Dalby has one of tallest wooden towers in Sweden.

The wooden church has a tower with a 60-meter high spire, which is one of the tallest in Sweden. Dalby church was built according to the plans of architect Bror Almquist and was consecrated in 1928. It replaced a wooden church from the 18th century, which, in its turn, had superseded two older churches, one located in Likenäs and another one that was situated near the farm "Stommen".

One of the old church bells, the Monk bell, used to ring for the pilgrims on their way to Trondheim in Norway.

Inside the church, you will find several interesting objects which date from the later Middle Ages:

  • the stone baptismal font (13th century)
  • a wooden crucifix (14th century)
  • a sculpture depicting Maria with the child Jesus (13th century)
  • a sculpture depicting the Pietà (15th century)

The paintings on the walls and ceilings were made by Tor Hörlin in 1928.
