Description

Natural forest with many species in an exciting rift valley area.

The reserve consists of older coniferous forest with a high proportion of deciduous trees in places. The natural values consist of the natural forest environment where some parts have been unaffected by man for a long time. The nature reserve also contains young forests with scattered old aspens left over from felling.

Old fire-marked stumps testify to a fire in the 1860s, which gave the deciduous trees and other fire-favored species better opportunities to establish themselves. In 2005, controlled burning was carried out in a small part of the reserve for the benefit of fire-prone species.

The reserve was created to preserve a natural forest with its flora and fauna with elements of rare and endangered species. The area is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.

Animals and plants

This varied area has many older coarse deciduous and coniferous trees. The availability of dead wood in various stages of decomposition favors several rare species. Everything from mosses and lichens, fungi and insects to a variety of birds thrive here. Threatened species that occur include the rose thistle, Norwegian beak lichen, three-toed woodpecker, and the beetles worthy of protection, the longhorn beetle and the ash borer.

Facilities

There is a parking lot with an information board at the turnaround. The trail to and in the reserve has been dismantled.
