Smultronställe Gammelskogen i Storskogen

At Trollberget you can peek into small caves among large boulders. If you look long enough, you might see a troll or two. Along the hiking trails through Storskogen there are shelters and fireplaces with wood. Surely you've brought something tasty to grill? Many birds, such as owls and woodpeckers, thrive among the 250-year-old trees. One of the birds of the forest is the great mourning dove. It is easily recognized by its song - a five-syllable rhyme! Ho-hoo-ho-ho-hoo.

Sturdy walking shoes are recommended when hiking through Storskogen's boulder-rich and somewhat difficult terrain. Walk south from Storvreta along the trail loop (Vildmarksleden) or the hiking trail (Jällaleden) that runs parallel here to get to Gammelskogen. After about 2 km, you will arrive at the information sign for the gem, where you can also turn off towards Trollberget. Stop to explore the forest's plants and animals or peek into Trollberget's small crevices and caves. Continue another 500 meters to one of the forest's rest areas with shelter and fireplace.

You can also get to Gammelskogen by walking north on Jällaleden starting in the forest behind Jällaskolan. From here, it's about 5 km to the favorite spot and you pass two rest areas along the way.

In the southern part of Gammelskogen, where the Vildmarksleden trail turns back towards Storvreta, there is a shelter where you can spend the night. Another shelter can be found further south along Jällaleden.
