Description

At Ledskär you are greeted by large open meadows with grazing cows, junipers and sea buckthorn bushes. It is often teeming with birds that rest here during the spring and fall migration season.

Ledskär is one of central Sweden's best and most important bird sites. In the calm, shallow bay, surrounded by grazed coastal meadows, tufted ducks, terns, cranes, white-fronted geese and redshanks thrive. Several birds of prey are also found in the area. If you are lucky, you may see an osprey, a lark falcon or a sea eagle soaring high in the sky.

Bring binoculars to see the birds properly. There are three good places for birdwatching at Ledskär:

the Ledskär tower on the beach meadow
the Fladentornet tower. 1.5 m high with a spacious platform.
the accessible tower at the harbor

From the first parking lot you come to, there is a 500 m long easy path to Ledskärstornet. During spring it can be quite wet. The area north of the path is a bird protection area. You are not allowed to stay here between 1/4 and 31/7. The tower is located on the vast beach meadow where there are cows.

If you continue the road a little further, you will reach the harbor, where there is also parking. Here you will find a two-storey tower, the lower level of which is adapted for wheelchair and walker access. The tower is located next to the parking lot where there is also an accessible dry toilet.

From the gravel road, midway between the two parking lots, there is a path to Fladentornet, 200 m. From Fladentornet you can continue the path through the forest and come out at the parking lot at Ledskär's marina. You can also make a detour to the platform at Kilholmarna, which is a rest area with a view of Fladen.

Ledskär is suitable for families with slightly older children who find it exciting to visit the bird towers. Near the beach meadow there is a small cottage, Ledskärsstugan, which can be booked for overnight stays.

Manager: Upplandsstiftelsen manages Ledskär together with private landowners.

There are two parking lots, one where the path to Ledskärstornet begins and one at the harbor.

You can take the regional bus to Ledskär. Get off at the Ledskärsvägen stop. From here you can walk about 1 km along the gravel road to Ledskärsviken.

Ledskär is located about 90 km north of Uppsala between Skärplinge and Karlholm Mill.

By car: Take the E4 towards Tierp. In Tierp, turn off towards Skärplinge and road 76. From Skärplinge, take road 76 north towards Gävle and Älvkarleby. After about 3 km you turn onto a small gravel road. There are signs for Ledskär. After about 1 km there is a parking lot on the right side.
