Description

Right near the ferry landing on Gräsö you will find Gräsö Farm Nature Reserve. Here, small fields are nestled between the rocky outcrops and cows graze along the shores. In many places you can see cairns and other traces of old-time farming.

Take a dip in the sea at Kattskär, stroll among the flowers in the pastures or sit down on a rock and enjoy your packed lunch. Two circular trails of 1.7 and 3.5 km take you through a large fenced area with flower-rich pastures and hilly forest terrain. Depending on what you want to do, you can choose to start at different entrances.

The grazed pastures are full of meadow flowers. In spring, orchids sprout in the lime-rich soil. In May and June you can see the beautiful orchid Adam and Eve, including in the pasture along the cow path and at the beginning of the Kattskärsstigen path.

From the eastern parking lot there is a 400 m long path down to Kattskär. At Kattskär there is no sandy beach or ice cream kiosk, but there are nice rocks to sunbathe on. Then just step into the sea for a cooling dip! Here you can also grill and enjoy the sea view. Firewood storage is available. Fires are not permitted elsewhere in the reserve.

Take the bus to the bus stop Färjeläget in Öregrund and then the ferry over to Gräsö. There it is a 300 m walk along the road to Gräsö farm itself. Bus timetables can be found at www.ul.se, ferry timetables can be found at www.trafikverket.se/grasoleden.

Gräsö is located just outside Öregrund in northern Uppland.

From road 76, turn off towards Öregrund about 6 km north of Östhammar. From Öregrund you take the ferry over to Gräsö. There are three parking lots in the reserve: one at the farm itself, one in the northwest where Kostigen and Skogsstigen start and one in the east where the path goes down to Kattskär. When you get off the ferry, turn right towards Äspskär to get to Gräsö farm or Kattskär. To get to the northwest parking lot, follow the road straight ahead and turn towards Österby after a few hundred meters.

In the reserve it is forbidden to:

destroy or damage solid natural objects or surface formations
break branches, fell or otherwise damage living or dead trees and shrubs, damage vegetation in general, for example by digging up plants
deliberately disturbing wildlife, for example, by climbing trees or taking close-up photographs of birds' nests or other nesting sites
Bringing a dog that is not on a leash
Making a fire other than in specially designated places
Camping or mooring a boat outside designated areas for more than one consecutive day
Putting up a caravan outside any designated areas
Riding outside any designated paths or areas
Driving a motorized vehicle outside designated roads or parking outside designated parking spaces
water skiing or otherwise operating a motorized vehicle in a way that disturbs bird life or the public
Using musical devices, musical instruments or the like in a disruptive manner
