Götavirke försvarsvall

About 1200 years ago, Götavirke was a mighty defense wall that stretched about 3.5 km in a north-south direction between Lillsjön at Hylinge in the south and Lake Asplången in the north. Today, only shorter pieces remain to be seen in the landscape. At Hageby farm, it is best preserved with an approximately 500 m long earth and stone wall. Archaeologists have investigated parts of the rampart here and used c14 dating to date it to around 800 AD. Götavirke is part of a larger defense system together with an older defense wall, the so-called Tvärdala wall, a few kilometers to the west. At Hageby farm there is a small parking area for visitors and an information board. Götavirke is located in a pasture grazed by horses. Therefore, show consideration for the animals and move calmly.
